Romania sees rising soy imports during 2011/12
Romania's soy production decline, upon the country's EU membership, has caused a substantial increase in soy meal imports which have risen from the 2007/08 season and reached a record of 500 kilometre-tonne in 2011/12.
Romania has already imported more than 100 kilometre-tonne of soy meal in the first three months of the current season.
Apart from soy meal imports, Romania also buys foreign soybeans. However, soybean imports gradually decrease against the background of expanding imports of soy meal. Just 40 kilometre-tonne of soybeans were imported in the 2011/12 season. Romania imported 30 kilometre-tonne of soybeans in the first three months of the current season.
