Hanoi's Ba Vi district's milk-cow farm and meadow project started its production on March 2 which was jointly developed by International Milk Products Joint-Stock Company (IDP) and the Ba Vi Center for Cow and Meadow Research under the National Animal Husbandry Institute.
Covering an area of 25 hectares, the VND40 billion (US$1.89 million) project is organised into functional sections and equipped with modern machinery imported from Sweden's Deleval, the newspaper reported.
The model will help local farmers with new ways of farming cows and producing milk, said IDP Vice-Director Phan Si Minh.
He also said that IDP specialists will also provide free training courses and good cow breeds for farmers, as well as support local cow-milk farming students.
Minh also said that the project is part of the national efforts to raise the amount of Vietnamese milk consumption of about only 14.5 litres per head per year.
With the operation of the model milk-cow farm, local milk-cow farmers will be supplied with good cow breeds and updated advanced milk-cow farming technique in order to raise both quantity and quality of milk in Ba Vi, Vietnam's large milk producing locality.
