Finland '08 meat production up 1 percent
A total of 399 million kilogrammes of meat were produced in Finland in 2008, up 1 percent from 2007, according to Gallup Food and Farm Facts.
Poultry production exceeded 100 million kilogrammes for the first time representing an increase of 6 percent from 2007, while broiler production increased by 9 percent, due to an increase in the average weight of birds.
Pork production increased by 2 percent, totalling 216 million kilogrammes, and consumption also increased by 2 percent.
Beef production fell by 8 percent to 80 million kilogrammes, and consumption fell by 2 percent.
Poultry production and consumption increased by about 6 percent.
Total meat consumption reached 388 million kilogrammes in 2008 which is over 73 kilogrammes per person, representing an increase of 1 percent from 2007.
Consumption in 2009 is expected to grow in line with 2008, but production is expected to fall slightly.
Consumption is forecast at 392 million kilogrammes and production at 393 million kilogrammes.
Pork production is expected to fall by 3 percent and beef production by about 1 percent, while poultry production is expected to grow by about 1 percent.
