Feed conferences highlight of three-day Victam Asia 2008

Billed as Southeast Asia's showpiece event for the animal feed and grain processing industries, Victam Asia 2008 and FIAAP 2008 opened at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5.
Hundreds of feed professionals and executives of related industries from around the world turned up on the first day of the three-day trade show devoted to ingredients and additives used within the formulation and processing of feeds for animals, pets, fish, shrimp, etc. Thailand's Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives deputy permanent secretary Yukol Limlamthong and the honorary chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand, Dr. Ajva Taulananda, warmly welcomed both guests and exhibitors.
The Netherlands ambassador to Thailand Pieter J. Th. Marres, along with Victam president Andre Oosterveld and general manager Henk Van de Bunt, joined the two Thai officials at the brief opening ceremony on the foyer of the exhibition hall.
More than 100 exhibitors featuring equipment, technology, systems, ingredients and additives used in formulation and production are participating in this first-ever joint show between Victam Asia and the Feed Ingredients and Additives Asia Pacific (FIAAP). Companies selling equipment and services for storage and handling systems, the processing of rice and grains, biomass and bio-energy technology are also taking part in the exhibition.
Four trade conferences coincide with the event. It started with the FIAAP Conference 2008, held on the first day of the exhibition. The conference discussed the animal feed additives market in Southeast Asia, raw material supply and demand, among other things. Discussions also touched on amino acids, acidifiers, enzymes and feed antibiotics.
Petfood Forum Asia 2008, organised by Petfood Industry Magazine, was held Wednesday, covering global and Asian petfood sales trends, petfood safety and traceability, advances in pet nutrition and palatability, new and functional ingredients, etc.
Aquafeed Horizons Asia 2008 takes place on the second day with Dr. Juadee Pongmaneerat, senior expert in fishery product and inspection at the Thai Department of Fisheries, Bangkok updating participants on the country's aquaculture and aquafeed status and the steps they are doing to enhance the safety and quality of aquatic food. The conference also promises a strong technical emphasis, especially on the latest innovations in feed additives, such as pheromone attractants and palatability enhancers.
On Friday, March 7, the Thai Feed Conference will be held with experts from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Department of Livestock, and the Thai Feed Mill Association presenting highly informative technical papers. The conference is open to the public free of charge.
Technical seminars had been lined up for the three-day event organized mostly by exhibitors. Open free to the public, they include a review of fishmeal and fish oil in animal feed production by Omega Protein, Inc., recent advances in microbial control in feedstuffs by Kemira, among other topics.
