China to reach 10th consecutive record grain harvest
China is expected to reach its 10th consecutive record grain harvest in 2013. With domestic wheat and corn yields expected to rise, the need for greater trade volumes with the US is delayed, according to the former Director of the country's State Grain Administration, Nie Zhenbang.
Nie added that supportive policies underpin grain production prospects.
Barring unfavourable weather, corn yields are also likely to be higher this year, meaning "trade with US (in this sector) is not likely to see much growth," he said.
The CPPCC, an advisory body that meets alongside the country's legislature, the National People's Congress, opened its annual session last week, ahead of the start of the NPC on March 5.
