Government sees 36.7% growth in Brazil's grain crop by 2019-20

Brazil's grain crop is expected to expand 36.7% by the 2019-20 crop season compared to 2008-09, according to Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture.

The Ministry of Agriculture said in a press release that research showed Brazil is expected to produce 177.5 million tonnes of grains such as soy, corn and wheat by 2019-20 from 129.8 million tonnes in 2008-09.

The research also showed the area planted with grains should also rise to 69.7 million hectares in 2020 from 60 million hectares in 2010 with the main growth coming from soy and sugarcane, the press release said.

Brazil's Mato Grosso, the No.1 soy producing state, is expected to produce 27.9 million tonnes of soy in 2019-20 compared to 17.9 million tonnes in 2008-09, the release said.

Brazil, which recently started its soy 2009-10 harvest, is the world's No.2 producer of soy after the US.
