Ukraine exports 16.7 million tonnes of grain in 2008-09
Ukraine has exported a record of 16.68 million tonnes of grain in the July-February 2008-09 season, up from 664,122 tonnes a year ago, agricultural consultancy UkrAgroConsult said Wednesday (Mar 4).
Wheat shipments had increased to 8.36 million tonnes so far in 2008-09 from 111,892 tonnes in the same period a year ago. Exports of barley surged to 5.32 million tonnes from 43,173 tonnes the previous year, when export restrictions were in force.
Ukraine also boosted its grain exports by 41.6 percent to 2.185 million tonnes in February from 1.543 million tonnes in January, UkrAgroConsult said.
