Nebraska winter wheat in good condition but lacks snow cover
Nebraska's winter wheat crop is in good condition, but a lack of snow cover could leave it vulnerable to high winds, according to the latest state agricultural report.
Winter wheat conditions have declined from a month ago, but the crop is rated 69 percent good or excellent, up from 57 percent in the same period last year, the report said.
The report also said 25 percent of the crop going into this week rated fair and only 6 percent poor.
Farmers from northwest Nebraska reported that winter wheat was greening up going into this week, while farmers in the south and southwest regions said their wheat crops are not getting enough moisture.
