Ukraine to decide whether to hike grain export quota
The Ukrainian government is scheduled to decide whether to increase the grain export quotas at a meeting Thursday, the Agriculture Ministry said Tuesday (March 5, 2008)
The draft decree, to be considered by the cabinet Thursday, provides for an increase in the barley export quota to 900,000 metric tonnes from 400,000 tonnes. The proposed increase in the corn export quota is to 1.8 million tonnes from 600,000 tonnes.
The wheat export quota is to increase "symbolically" to 203,000 tonnes from 200,000 tonnes. No increase is proposed in the rye export quota of 3,000 tonnes.
The draft decree also proposes that export quotas should be in effect until June 30 instead of the current date of March 31.
