Moldova To Buy 115,000 MT Milling Wheat
Moldova will buy 115,000 metric tons of milling wheat in the U.S. and Canada before the current marketing year ends in June, according to the government press service Friday.
The first purchase of 25,000 tons will be made in March, as Moldova's current wheat stocks of 30,000 tons will only last until April 15, the press service said.
The money for the purchases will be allocated out of the state budget.
Moldova's government decided to buy the wheat in the U.S. and Canada, and not from the traditional suppliers in Russia and Kazakhstan, because North American grain is currently cheaper.
Moldova harvested in 2003 101,600 metric tons of wheat, compared with 1.19 million tons in 2002, due to crop damage caused by severe winter frosts.
