China methionine prices soften on supply rise, poor demand
Prices of methionine dropped further during the week ending March 2.
Demand for poultry feed stayed poor as H7N9 bird flu disease remained rampant. Feed producers were reluctant to stockpile inventories while livestock farmers continued to suffer heavy losses. Prices of methionine were therefore under pressure in China.
Price quotes of imported dl-methionine were mainly around RMB31/kg.
Buyers will limit methionine procurements while feed consumption stays low, and the poultry market sees little signs of recovering.
