US wheat producers concerned about low Australian prices
Australian producers should be paid more for wheat, according to the US Wheat Associates.
US Wheat Associates was critical of Australia's former export monopoly, and lobbied strong for investigations into the AWB Oil-for-Food scandal.
President of US Wheat Associates, Alan Tracy, said the deregulation of the Australian wheat market is taking a while, and problems still exist in Western Australia.
However, he said if farmers in Australia are paid less, it drags the price down for everyone.
"We don't want to see it go into the market place too cheaply. That tends to drive price down for others as well," he said.
"That hasn't been achieved and there's work to be done, so Australian producers do get full value for their wheat, particularly back to the farm level."
