UK's Vion workers vote on strike
Workers at Vion, the UK's biggest supplier of meat to retailers, have begun voting on strike action, the country's largest labour union Unite said Tuesday (March 3).
The union said some 2,300 workers are to be balloted after Dutch-owned Vion refused to discuss its proposals to cut 900 jobs.
Unite said a vote in favour of strike action could mean supplies of meat to major retailers including Tesco PLC (TSCO.LN), Wal-Mart Inc.'s (WMT) Asda Group, J. Sainsbury PLC (SBRY.LN), and Marks & Spencer Group PLC (MKS.LN) could be affected.
