Grain planting to increase in Ukraine
Ukrainian farmers will sow grains on an additional 528,000 hectares (1.3 million acres) for the 2011 harvest in contrast to last year, according to the Agriculture Minister, Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.
This leads to a rise of 3.5% from the 15.128 million hectares planted in the previous year, according to the Agriculture Ministry's website.
Spring barley planting will increase by 70,000 hectares from last year in contrast to the 2.75 million hectares sown in 2010, Prysyazhnyuk said.
Corn seeding will rise by 71,000 hectares, Prysyazhnyuk added. Farmers planted the grain on 2.48 million hectares in 2011, according to the statistics office.
