Blue Ridge Aquaculture to rear salmon in West Virginia fish farm

Virginia-based Blue Ridge Aquaculture targets to raise salmon at a recently acquired fish farm.

The recently acquired West Virginia-based fish farm used to produce artic char, but the company CEO Bill Martin plans to upgrade the facility in order to rear salmon and steelhead trout in low-salinity water.

Inland fish and seafood farms are the future, according to Martin. He added that he hopes to expand into the raising of more aquaculture species to feed US' growing demand of seafood.

Blue Ridge Aquaculture raises nearly four million pounds of tilapia each year at its 100,000 square foot indoor aquaculture facility, and ships about 75,000 pounds of live tilapia each week from the facility to markets in various states in the US and Canada.
