China poultry imports exceed exports in 2007

China imported 773,000 tonnes of chicken, valued at US$920 million in 2007, increasing by 35.4 percent and 100 percent on-year respectively, the General Administration of Customs reported.

Export reached only 125,000 tonnes, valued at US$210 million, surging by 29.8 percent and 69 percent year-on-year respectively.

China's chicken import value and volume increased last year, driven by the global grain output reduction, feedstuff price hikes and high chicken breeding cost.
