Tyson to shut down North Carolina factory
Tyson Foods has decided to shut a North Carolina factory after its line of oven-roasted chicken product has been discontinued due to faltering consumer demand.
Donnie Smith, group vice president of Consumer Products for Tyson Foods, said that they had tried to maintain their oven-roasted chicken product but they have decided to drop it for more profitable products.
The company's decision has been influenced by the consumers' preference to ready-to-eat foods from refrigerated foods.
About 400 workers will be affected by the plant's closure, but they will receive financial assistance and job opportunities in the company's other plants, according to Tyson.
