Thai poultry producers request for early launching of Egg School project
Thailand's poultry and egg producers have requested the Thai government to push forward the Egg School project in face of rising prices of feed and change in weather conditions.
Grain prices have been skyrocketing on a worldwide basis, causing woes to the global livestock industries. Thailand's poultry industry is no exception but now it not only suffers from the ever-rising price of feed ingredients, but also from a fluctuating weather, which causes hens to produce fewer eggs, leading to reduced income for the farmers.
A poultry producer in Chachoengsao province, Suthee Dechathanawat, said the price of corns for feeding chicken is nearly THB 9 per kilogram.
The Egg School project is aimed at urging people to consume more eggs, and Suthee believes that the project can help to ease the financial burden on many farmers, especially when eggs can be easily distributed to different schools on a national scale.
