Dairy production in Hawaii falls
Monthly milk production in Hawaii has fallen to 5.9 million pounds as compared to 7.4 million pounds the previous year. This is due to some Oahu dairy farms being closed in 2004.
Statistics Service figures of the Hawaii Agriculture cover December, and show a decline of 100,000 pounds from the previous month.
Both the dry and milk cow inventory numbered 5,800 head, down 700 from December last year but up 100 from November. In December, output per cow averaged 1,015 pounds, 125 pounds below the same month last year and 5 pounds less than the previous month. Cumulative production for 2004 totaled 80.5 million pounds, 13 percent below 2003.
