US dairy exports surged in 2010
Dairy exports recovered dramatically last year after 2009's challenging market conditions.
US suppliers shipped US$3.7 billion of dairy products to buyers outside US borders in 2010, only slightly missing the export record attained in 2008.
According to the US Dairy Export Council's year in review report, US dairy export volume for milk powder (including food preparations), whey, cheese, butterfat and lactose increased by a 39% last year to 1.5 million tonnes.
The report examined at global dairy market highlights from 2010 and how US suppliers and USDEC both played a role in influencing trends and capitalised on world dairy opportunities. It also looked at increasing US commitment to export markets, the vibrancy of global dairy demand, China's growing importance as a dairy consumer, market access challenges, trade policy progress, the impact of dietary concerns on global dairy trends, record US cheese volume and resurgent milk powder shipments.
