China pork production shows increase in 2009
The total output of meat reached 76.42 million tonnes in China in 2009, up 5% on-year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
NBS's report showed China's output of pork was 48.89 million tonnes in 2009, up by 5.8%, and that of beef and mutton were 6.36 and 3.89 million tonnes, up by 3.6% and 2.4% respectively.
By the end of the year, 469.85 million pigs were registered in the total stocks, up by 1.5%, and 645.07 million pigs were slaughtered, up by 5.7%. The country produced milk of 35.18 million tonnes, down by 1.1%; the total output of eggs increased by 1.4% on-year to 27.41 million tonnes in 2009.
