Russia tops pork imports from Brazil in 2009

 

 

Russia was still Brazil's largest market, as total Brazilian pork exports to Russia in 2009 amounted to 5.292 million tonnes, up 13.2% compared to 2008, but 4.2% less than in 2007.

 

In value terms, Brazilian pork exports in 2009 decreased by 18.5% compared to 2008 and amounted to US$1.1 billion. The volume of the Brazilian pork exports to Russia in 2009 increased by 18.3% compared to 2008, but decreased 23.5% in value terms.

 

In 2008, Brazil was the second biggest supplier of pork to Russia after the EU, while in 2009, it took the leading position.

 

At the same time, Russia also still remains the largest market for the Brazilian beef. Russia's share in total Brazilian exports of beef in 2009 amounted to 35.3%, compared to 37.4% in 2008, while in value terms, 30.1% compared to 35.7% in 2008.

 

Brazil accounted for almost 52% of total beef imports to Russia in 2009.
