Over 1,000 pigs die of CSF in Southern Russia farm

A total of 1,027 pigs have died or were killed, as a result of an outbreak of classical swine fever (CSF), at the Niva Kubani agriculture enterprise in the Krasnodar territory in Southern Russia.

A total of 49 pigs were killed at the beginning of the week after vaccination, Vladimir Borovoi, the head of the state veterinary control department for animal health at the Federal Veterinarian and Phytosanitary Control Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) division in the Krasnodar territory.

Borovoi said the animals were already vaccinated as they did not manifest any CSF signs. However, the pigs were later found out to be infected with CSF and the disease had developed after the incubation period.

Borovoi said some of the infected pigs were slaughtered through a bloodless technique.
