EU's approval of pork protein in fish feed upsets Muslims
The EU has recently approved the use of fat proteins from animals, including pigs, in fish feed in the EU, starting in June 2013, which may deem fish to be unfit for consumption by Muslims.
The decision has triggered alarm among Muslim communities living in Europe and prompted Islamic organisations in Brussels, the Belgian capital, to ask religious institutions to issue an official fatwa (religious edict).
Islam bans Muslims from consuming pork products as pig meat is deemed "unclean."
