US corn acreage seen up at 94.7 million acres

US corn output is seen to rise in 2012/13 when demand is levelling off, which should pressure prices going forward, according to a presentation from Informa Economics on February 27.

Informa is forecasting US corn acres at 94.7 million, which compares with 91.9 million in 2011 and the latest USDA forecast of 94 million, according to Sergio Novelli, of Informa Economics Canada.

Using that acreage base, he estimated US production at 14.293 billion bushels in 2012, up from the 12.358 billion bushels the US grew in 2011.
