Belarus boosts 2006 grain imports by 7 percent

 

 

In 2006, Belarus exported 593,500 tonnes of grain crops, up 7 percent year-on-year.

 

In value terms, grain import was almost US$110 million as against US$95.3 million in 2005. The largest volume of grain was imported from Ukraine (306,900 tonnes, worth US$40.5 million).

 

In physical terms, grain import from Ukraine rose 4 percent from the previous year. Belarus also raised grain imports from Kazakhstan and Vietnam, respectively, five-fold to 105,300 tonnes, worth $18.7 million, and 11-fold to 6,400 tonnes, worth US$2.8 million. In addition, grain was delivered from Lithuania, Russia, Moldova, Pakistan, India, the United States, Germany, France, Thailand and Latvia.
