Ukraine 2007 grain planted area seen 14 million hectares, unchanged on-year

Ukraine's total grain planted area for the 2007 harvest is likely to be just over 14 million hectares, about the same as last year, the Agriculture Ministry reported Thursday.

Winter grains for the 2007 harvest have been planted on 6.981 million hectares, 12.7 percent more than last year.

The ministry said 97 percent of the winter grains were in good or satisfactory condition.

In 2006, Ukraine's grain harvest fell by 9.9 percent on-year to 34.3 million tonnes in clean weight. The grain was harvested on 14.19 million hectares.
