Vietnam needs US$0.5 billion to overhaul poultry industry
Vietnam will need VND7,900bil ($526.6mil) if it wants to re-organise its poultry breeding, slaughtering and processing system, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
MARD has submitted to the Government a proposal on reforming poultry breeding, slaughtering and processing for 2006-2015 in conjunction with current efforts to prevent bird flu.
This year, Vietnam will focus on having half of its poultry to be raised in industrial farms and achieving 8.5 percent growth in poultry revenues. Vietnam hopes to have 105 slaughtering establishments by 2007 with total capacity of 135 million units a year.
By 2010, at least 60 percent of poultry will be raised in industrial farms and the growth in revenue should hit 14.7 percent. By then, Vietnam will have 121 slaughtering establishments with capacity at 210 million units a year.
