China's 05 poultry exports rises 41 percent to US$914M
China exported US$914 million worth of poultry products last year, up 40.75 percent, while imports more than doubled to US$354 million, the Ministry of Agriculture said on its website late Tuesday.
Total exports last year rose to around 400,000 tonnes, from 257,000 tonnes in 2004, while imports rose to 387,000 tonnes from 180,000 tonnes, according to a graph in the ministry's report, which did not provide specific data.
The report also indicates that China's per capita consumption of poultry meat rose 10.64 percent on-year to 8.53 kg from January to November and people in the south consumed more than those in the north.
Per capita chicken consumption in the first 11 months rose 10.96 percent on year to 4.96 kg, while per capita duck consumption rose 13.97 percent to 1.55 kg.
China was the world's sixth largest poultry meat importer in 2005, accounting for 6 percent of the world's total imports, and the fourth largest exporter, accounting for 4 percent of the world's total exports, according to the report.
