EU rapeseed supply set to rise 2.6% in 2013/2014
The rapeseed supply in the EU market will increase by 25.5 million tonnes, or 2.6% in 2013/2014 season (from July 2013 to June 2014), according to the report by Poland’s Foundation of Assistance Programmes for Agriculture (FAPA).
A slight decrease in import volumes but increased rapeseed production in the region contributed to the increase in supply. In addition, the rapeseed reserve in summer 2014 is estimated to reach 1.25 million tonnes.
Though a 3% decline in the EU rapeseed imports is expected, total volume will remain high at about 3.3 million tonnes.
In 2013/2014 season, total rapeseed imports from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries are expected to reach 1.9 million tonnes, most of which will be from Ukraine.
Australia is another major rapeseed exporter to the EU, with 1.1 million tonnes this season, compared to 2.1 million for the last season. At about 200,000 tonnes, Canada shipped the smallest amount of rapeseed to the region.
Meanwhile, the rapeseed export from the EU countries is expected to grow as well. In 2013/2014 season, the export volume will rise to 250,000 to 300,000 tonnes, compared to 80,000 tonnes during the last season.
During the current season, the volume of rapeseed processing in 27 EU countries will reach 22.7 million tonnes, an immaterial increase of 0.1% compared to the last season.
