Ukraine may increase grain export quota by 1.7 million tonnes

 

 

Ukraine's government may increase the grain export quota for the current marketing year by 1.7 million tonnes, according to the draft government decree which appeared on the Web site of the economy ministry Wednesday ( Feb 28, 2008).

 

The draft decree, to be considered by the cabinet shortly, provides for an increase in the barley export quota to 900,000 tonnes from the current 400,000 tonnes. The corn export quota will increase to 1.8 million tonnes from the current 600,000 tonnes.

 

There is also a "symbolic" increase in the wheat export quota to 203,000 tonnes from the current 200,000 tonnes.

 

The rye export quota of 3,000 tonnes remains unchanged.

 

The document also provide for an extension of the quotas being in effect to June 30 from the current date of March 31.
