Ukraine suspends imports of pigs, pork from Russian region

The Ukrainian State Department of Veterinary Medicine has banned imports of pigs, pork and related food materials from Russia's Krasnodar Territory due to cases of classical hog cholera registered there.

The press service of the State Department of Veterinary Medicine today reported that the ban was imposed on 23 February 2007 after receiving an official report from the International Epizootic Bureau about instances of classical hog cholera being recorded in Krasnodar Territory.

Ukraine had previously temporarily suspended poultry imports from Krasnodar Territory due to a suspected outbreak of a highly pathogenic bird flu virus.
