Hanoi reports no clenbuterol in meat, animal feed

No residue of clenbuterol was found in any of the 200 samples of animal and poultry meat and 100 samples of feed sent to the Nutrition Institute for tests, according to the Hanoi Agriculture and Rural Development Department in Vietnam.

Clenbuterol is a substance that is banned in production of animal and poultry food.

This is the first time samples of meat and animal food were tested for residue of clenbuterol, the department said, adding that it is unable to affirm that there is no residue of the banned substance in animal and poultry meat on sales in the market.

The examination group of the city took tested samples of meat from animal and poultry meat in the Metro, Big C, Unimart, Hanoi and Intimex supermarkets, 25 markets and two butcheries.

Also, 100 selected samples of feed were taken from 17 livestock breeding farms and 11 shops of animal, poultry and fish food.
