Mexican pork sales go down

Mexican pork sales are "suffocated" by the price rises registered in grains, the low prices of US meat and the precarious sanitary conditions of most of national markets, said Enrique Dominguez Lucero, Director General of the Mexican Pork Producers Confederation.

The official pointed that sorghum prices, the main grain used in the industry, have increased 50 percent because of corn price rises in United States in September 2006. Lucero said that due to speculative moves, grains went up from 1,600 pesos to 2,500 pesos.
