Algeria purchases 300,000 tonnes wheat in tender
European traders said Friday (Feb 24) that Algeria has bought about 300,000 tonnes of milling wheat in a tender for a nominal 125,000 tonnes which closed on Thursday (Feb 23).
It was thought likely to be of mixed South American and EU origin, traders said. France was seen as the likely EU origin while Argentina and possibly Uruguay would be the likely sources in South America, traders said.
One trader said he believed the purchase was over 300,000 tonnes. The tender had sought optional-origin milling wheat for shipment in May.
In its previous milling wheat tender reported on February 9, Algeria bought at least 700,000 tonnes for April and May shipment.
