Vietnam Jan-Feb seafood exports value down 5.8 percent
Data from the General Statistics Office (GSO) show that Vietnam seafood exports value for the first two months of 2009 are down 5.8 percent on-year to US$461 million.
In February, however, seafood exports were valued at US$250 million product, up by 15.6 percent on-year.
The GSO data also revealed that producers have spent US$35 million on seafood raw materials for processing during the Jan-Feb period.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the country's seafood export to EU has dropped in the past two months, prompting local companies to turn into Asian market.
The market shift helped raise seafood export to China by nearly 200 percent; to Singapore, 121 percent and to South Korea, 32.6 percent.
