Argentine Jan soy exports up 5 percent on-year; oilmeal exports down
Argentina's soy shipments in January totalled 510,154 tonnes, up 5 percent from 486,038 tonnes during the same month a year earlier, according to the latest data from the agricultural health and sanitation service, Senasa.
Soy shipments in January were valued at US$180 million, compared with US$202 million a year ago.
China was, by far, the largest destination for soy exports, buying 465,157 tonnes in January.
Soymeal exports in January totalled 792,529 tonnes, down from 1.1 million tonnes a year earlier.
January soymeal exports were valued at US$235 million.
Holland was the leading buyer of Argentine soymeal in January, followed by Italy, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.
January soy pellet and cake exports totalled 123,254 tonnes, compared with 200,814 tonnes a year earlier.
Soyoil exports in January totalled 239,558 tonnes, down from 436,566 tonnes a year earlier.
January soyoil exports were valued at US$158 million.
China dominated purchases of Argentine soyoil in January, with Iran coming in a distant second.
Argentina is the world's No. 3 soy producer and exporter behind the US and Brazil and is the leading exporter of soyoil and meal.
