Malaysian company strives to meet seafood demand from the Middle East
Ambang Wibawa, a Malaysian seafood processing company, is developing a 100-hectares fish farm in Perak to ensure constant supply of products to the Middle East.
The company direct-exports up to four containers of frozen fish to Dubai every month, and slightly more to Saudi Arabia, said Zubaidah Mohd Zaki, director of Ambang Wibawa.
Zubaidah said the company is now developing a 100-hectares fish farm to ensure constant supply of their products, and export capacity is likely to be increased by May.
The company also sources its fish, which includes seabass, red tilapia, black tilapia and catfish, from several fish farmers in Perak.
Ambang Wibawa has also invested about RM2 million (US$626,989) in a processing facility based in Kampar, which has commenced operations since last year.
The company faces competition from exporters in China and Taiwan, said Zubaidah. However she notes that the proximity between Malaysia and the Middle East is an advantage.
