Meat workers, pig suppliers in Australia face uncertain future after abattoir blaze
More than 360 meat workers face an uncertain future after one of South Australia's largest small goods plants were destroyed in a weekend fire.
The damage bill at Primo Meats at Port Wakefield is expected to top 15 million AUD.
Operations are expected to cease for six months while the plant is being rebuilt.
Pig supplier Greg Ludvigsen says it will be a tough time, especially when there is plenty of demand for pork.
Ludvigsen added that the industry is looking forward for a prosperous time but will be diminished in the short run due to the incident.
