Alltech sees sales in Romania up by 50 percent in 2007

U.S. animal feeds producer and distributor Alltech expects its sales in Romania to grow 50 percent in 2007 from the 4.0 million euro (US$5.27 million) it registered in 2006, president Pearse Lyons said on February 26.

Sales of ingredients for animal feeds generated 80 percent of the company total sales in Romania in 2006.

Alltech has a distribution centre selling ingredients for animal feeds and nutritional additives for animals in Romania and it may build a production facility in the near future.

Lyons said that Romanian farmers should focus more on animal productivity, as Romania is now a member of the European Union (EU) which is a very competitive market. The Romanian market for animal feeds and additives has a great potential but the producers need to upgrade their technology, Lyons added.

Alltech expects its global sales of animal feeds to rise 25 percent this year.

Alltech, also active in production of specialised ingredients for the food and alcohol industry, is present in over 80 countries across the world.
