Argentina's January grain stocks up 13 percent
Stocks of major grains and oilseeds in Argentina totalled 14,507,283 tonnes in January, according to the latest provisional data from the National Office for the Control of Agricultural Trade.
This puts stocks of corn, soybeans, wheat and 59 "other crops" up 12.9 percent from 12,844,261 tonnes a year earlier.
The "other crops" category includes products such as peanuts and rice.
Argentina's grain storage capacity in January totalled 47.4 million tonnes while utilised capacity stood at 15.08 million tonnes, or almost 32 percent of capacity. The country has 3,023 storage plants, including everything from small silos to large industrial storage facilities.
The following information, which is for stocks in tonnes for major grains and oilseeds as of Jan 31, 2006, Dec 31, 2005 and Jan 31, 2005, does not include grains and oilseeds held privately by farmers.
The information refers to the total amount of stocks held by millers and crushers, as well as grains stored in silos.
