Six Brazilian meat processing facilities have been approved to export pork and poultry to China, following satisfactory inspection last year.

The decision was communicated to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) by Chinese health authorities last week.

In 2012, a Chinese mission visited Brazil to visit its establishments. The group met 20 processing plants, out of which six were contemplated. A pork processing plant in Rio Grande do Sul, three poultry processing plants based in Santa Catarina and one in São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul were selected by the Chinese authorities.

For exports to begin, China called on Brazil to send in the coming days, the list of names of the veterinarians responsible for signing the health certificate issued by the exporting establishment.

China, on receipt of the document, announced the start of exports through a publication in its official website - the General Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection Quarantine (AQSIQ).
