Australian red meat sales to UAE soar 24 percent in 2008

Australia's red meat exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) grew 24 percent on-year in 2008, according to a recent report by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA).

Australia exported 31,755 tonnes of red meat to the UAE in 2008, up from 25,526 tonnes in 2007.

Beef products marked the largest increase at 138 percent, rising to 4,312 tonnes last year from 1,807 tonnes in 2007. The growth was partly due to increased demand by consumers and hotels, and mainly to rising sales of boneless beef for manufacturing hamburgers and frozen retail meat products.
