EU veterinary team to assist Croatia in swine fever outbreak
The EU has sent an emergency veterinary team to Croatia to assist in an outbreak of classical swine fever (CSF).
The team will provide scientific, technical and managerial assistance to the Croatian authorities, said the European Commission.
The outbreak occurred in Croatia's northern Crecan region, which is near the Slovenian border. It is probable that the disease had spread from East Slovenia as it had been plagued with classical swine fever outbreaks last year.
Quick reaction is crucial in highly contagious animal diseases and efficient expert support is important in bringing the situation under control, stated the European Commission.
