Taiwan's cold spell brings woe to agriculture industry
Taiwan's aquaculture sector has suffered losses as much as US$7.1 million due to recent cold spell, which is also affecting the nation's agriculture industry adversely.
Fisheries have now lost US$7.1 million, with Penghu County alone suffering losses of more than US$5.8 million.
In addition, about 2,100-hectares of farmland have lost about 33 percent of their crops.
Officials of the Council of Agriculture said they have implemented relief measures such as cash aid and low-interest loans to help affected farmers.
Due to losses suffered by the aquaculture sector, Taiwan's agricultural losses have now increased to US$12.2 million.
