US tops seafood exports from China Jiangsu
The US was the largest buyer of seafood from east China's Jiangsu Province in January with US$10.44 million in purchases, more than a quarter of the province's total seafood exports.
Exports of fish, seaweed, clams, crabs and lobsters to the US grew 65.6% on a year-on-year basis in January, the provincial oceanic and fisheries bureau said on Wednesday (Feb 24).
According to the bureau, Jiangsu exported 8,500 tonnes of seafood worth US$38.14 million last month.
The Republic of Korea was the second largest buyer with US$6.77 million of purchases in January, followed by the EU with US$6.25 million worth of purchases. Japan, which was the largest buyer in January 2009, ranked fourth with US$5.29 million of imports, down 12.9% year on year.
As of the end of January, Jiangsu seafood had been sold to 59 countries and regions worldwide, compared with 33 in January 2009, the bureau said.
