Tyson adds jobs in Virginia poultry plant
Tyson Foods Inc. is in the process of adding jobs at its Glen Allen, Virginia, poultry plant as the company implements a new production line at the facility, said spokesman Gary Mickelson.
Mickelson said the company is modifying part of its plant to produce products for some fast-food and deli customers.
He said this new production is being phased in over the next several months, and believes will result in the addition of more than 180 production jobs.
He added that interest in jobs at the plant has been strong, and the company already has hired 50 people for the additional positions.
Tyson eliminated some 190 positions at the Glen Allen plant in the spring of 2008.
He also said because of normal job attrition, most of the affected people were able to return to work at the plant within a few months.
The Glen Allen plant currently employs about 625 people.
