Canada's cattle inventory further declines
Canada's cattle and calf inventory on January 1 dropped by 1.5 percent on-year at 13.9 million head, the USDA and Statistics Canada said.
Beef cows in Canada have slowly dwindled since 2005. In 2006, there were only 4.9 million head, 6 percent below the previous year.
The number of heifers held as beef cow replacements increased by 1 percent last year with total of 595,000 head, after three years of decline.
