FSIS to remove 166 meat exporters from Mexico list

The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said it is proposing to remove around 166 meat and poultry processors from a list of approved exporters to Mexico.

This transpired after the neighboring country requested for the removal of all plants no longer in business.

FSIS spokeswoman Laura Reiser, after checking all 1,300 entries against the meat and poultry directory and against the Performance Based Inspection System, said that 166 establishments on the Mexico list were no longer active.

FSIS proposes to remove those establishments effective February 26 unless it hears otherwise from plants on the list.
