Denmark's 2011 pig production up to 29.4 million

The Danish Agriculture and Food Council reported that the country's 2011 pig production rose by more than 800,000 to 29.4 million compared with 2010.

The export of piglets increased by about 0.5 million in 2011, whereas the export of porkers and sows was at its lowest level for many years.

This means that the number of pigs that were slaughtered in Denmark was higher in 2011 compared with 2010, and this development is forecast to continue in 2012.
